Class Rosters and Attendance
Each week, attendance should be taken from the official
roster. If a student is not listed on the roster, and if
they tell you they have registered, they will be allowed
to sit in the class for a maximum of two class sessions.
By the third class session, inform the student he or she
must go to the SCS Registration office to either register
for the course, or to alert the Registrar that they do not
appear on the roster. After the third class session, make
any corrections or additions to the class roster, then sign
and return it to the SCS offices on either the Chicago (Wieboldt
Hall, 6th floor) or Evanston (405 Church Street) campus.
You can drop off, mail or fax your roster. Fax numbers: Evanston:

Class rosters are obtained online, in either of two ways.
An activated NU NetID and password is necessary to access
rosters.
- Rosters that include student photos are available through
CAESAR (Computer
Assisted Student Access Route), which is Northwestern's
online student services system
for registration and records.
CAESAR Instructions:
- go to the Caesar homepage http://www.northwestern.edu/caesar/
- Log on with your NU NetID and password
- Select the term in which you are teaching (e.g. Fall 2007)
- Click on the Class Roster icon

Please note: CAESAR works best with Internet Explorer 6 and Netscape 6.2 on Windows workstations, Netscape 6.2 on Macintosh workstations, and Netscape Communicator 4.72 on UNIX and Linux workstations. There may be minor problems with CAESAR on Mozilla, Firefox, and Safari 12. Other browsers may not work with CAESAR.
- Rosters are avalable via Blackboard,
which is Northwestern University's online course
management system, an easy means of communicating with
students.
Blackboard Instructions:
- Logon with your NU NetID and password
- Select your course
- Make sure you have made this course "Available." To
make your course "Available", navigate to
Control Panel - Settings
- Course Options - Course Availability.
Once you have made the course "Available" it
will take about 24 hours for a roster to appear
- To obtain the roster itself: Click on Communication
in the left column on the screen
- Select "Roster"

For instructors whose NetIDs/NU email addresses have not
been activated, class enrollment can be obtained through
logging into CAESAR as a guest user: For new instructors who have not yet obtained an
NU NetID or password:
- Go to the CAESAR homepage.
- Click on View Quarterly Class Schedule (on left side of screen)
- Click
on View Schedule Classes
- Make sure the current term (e.g. "2006 Fall") is showing in the
Term field, then choose Basic Search
- Select Continuing Education from the Course Career pull-down
menu and select the Subject area. Hit "Search"
- Find your course from the resulting list.
- When you have found your course, click on the course detail
icon (two small squares) on the far right for enrollment
information
- You'll see "current enrollment" listed
midway down the screen.To get class rosters from CAESAR,
you have to
have a Net ID and password.
