CAESAR and Online Grading
Grades are submitted online via CAESAR (Computer Assisted
Electronic Student Access Route), which is Northwestern's
online student services system for registration and records,
during a specified access period at the end of each term.
If you will be out of town during the grading period, you
may access CAESAR from any computer with an internet connection.
Paper grade sheets absolutely are not accepted.
Please note that your NetID and
password must be activated in order to access CAESAR and
submit grades, which is why
NetID and password activation should be confirmed at the
start of the quarter. Please visit the NetID and Email page
for information on NetID activation.
New Faculty
New faculty must also complete an Access
Authorization Form (PDF Format) and return it to the
NU Office of the Registrar on the Evanston
campus, or you will be unable to submit grades.
Please submit the form to NU's Office of the Registrar
(Attention: Michael Maysilles, fax (847) 491-8458) before
the start of the quarter. The form only needs to be submitted
once and is effective for every term taught at Northwestern.
Please use this online grading
tipsheet (PDF Format) for step-by-step
instructions on grade submission.
If you encounter problems while trying to submit your grades,
please contact the Office of the Registrar at (847) 491-5234.
If you encounter problems with your NetID during grade submission,
please contact NU Information Technology Support at (847)
491-4357.
SCS grades are A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D, F, W, X,
Y, V (and P and N, which are not applicable to Professional
Development Program courses). The School of Continuing Studies
has no fixed guidelines on computing grades for academic
performance. It is solely at the discretion of the instructor
to assess and formulate a fair grading scale. For more information
on grades, please see SCS
Academic Policies.
