Information Technology Facilities and Resources

Academic Technologies (AT), a department of Northwestern University Information Technology, supports faculty in their primary roles as instructors and researchers. Academic Technologies also provides access to educational technologies and various multimedia resources for the larger Northwestern community.

Through Academic Technologies (AT) instructors can access a variety of resources in a networked environment, including computer labs/classrooms with Macintosh and Windows units and a UNIX workstation lab/classroom. A public lab facility on the fourth floor of Wieboldt Hall on the Chicago campus has evening and weekend hours, and there are computer labs available in the main library on the Evanston campus.

Instructors receive a free network-services account (NetID) which gives access to e-mail, Northwestern's on-line library catalog, the Internet, and other network services. See NetID page for details on NetID and access.

Networking software for use on home or office computers is available from Academic Computing and Network Services on both campuses.

The official communication tool for Northwestern University is email. Therefore, as a condition of employment with SCS, you must maintain an active Northwestern email account. If a non-Northwestern account is your primary account, you can check your Northwestern email account via the internet, or have it forwarded to your primary email provider by following the instructions at www.northwestern.edu/webmail.

The NUIT Support Center at 1800 Sherman Avenue, first floor on the Evanston campus, is Northwestern's primary information resource on computing and networking. The Support Center provides walk-in and phone consulting on University-supported hardware, software, operating systems, and computing facilities. Hours of operation are as follows:

Academic Year Hours:
Monday - Thursday: 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. CDT
Friday: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. CDT
Saturday: 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. CDT
Sunday: 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. CDT

Break/Summer Hours: (after finals week)
Monday - Friday: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m CDT
Saturdays, Sundays, and University holidays: CLOSED

On the Chicago campus, the NUIT Support Office is located in Suite 600 of Abbott Hall, 710 North Lake Shore Drive. Abbott help desk hours are: Monday & Thursday: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

For both the Chicago and the Evanston campuses, call (847) 491-HELP to speak with a consultant.

Faculty is given network access for the duration of the teaching assignment. To retain access, faculty must teach continuously for SCS.
