Sports is one of the largest economic enterprises in the world, employing professionals with a variety of business skills and specializations who have one common interest: the business of sports. For professionals who aspire to either begin or enhance a career in sports, Northwestern University School of Continuing Studies offers a Master of Arts in Sports Administration (MSA) program that focuses on the business of athletics, from professional teams to burgeoning youth leagues. Drawing on prestigious credentials and top standards, the program employs faculty and staff who have access to team executives, sports agents, corporate sports consultants and a broad range of other professionals in collegiate, professional and amateur athletics administration.

In the classroom MSA students become immersed in the intellectual and theoretical concepts of sports business and management and hone the skills required to thrive in the field. The curriculum includes seven core courses that provide students with a solid foundation in the strategic, analytic and creative thinking vital to the business of sports; two courses in a specialization (either sports management or sports marketing and public relations); a leadership course; and the capstone project to culminate the learning experience.

With its location in the Chicago area — regarded as one of the largest sports economies in the nation — the MSA program taps into the rich local sports community to provide hands-on experiences for students. From guest speakers to program events to field trips to a variety of local businesses and organizations (including professional sport franchises, college athletic departments, broadcast outlets and other producers of sports content), students are exposed to professionals who are shaping both the Chicago and the national sports marketplace.

Northwestern University provides a comprehensive learning experience for students looking to build a career in sports. With the outstanding academic pedigree of Northwestern, a strong alumni network and elite networking opportunities, the Master of Arts in Sports Administration program has quickly become regarded as one of the top graduate programs in the field.
