The interdisciplinary array of courses in this certificate program offers both a historical and contemporary look at what makes Chicago a true world-class city. Follow Chicago's rapid growth from a remote, swampy outpost to a thriving commercial metropolis and cultural mecca. Take an in-depth look at immigration and neighborhood settlements and the political, economic, and social circumstances that helped shape the city. Explore the architecture of Daniel Burnham, Louis Sullivan, Frank Lloyd Wright and Mies van der Rohe in illustrated lectures and field trips. Learn about Chicago's extraordinary art, music, literature, and theatre offerings.
