What is the purpose of the Art
Therapy courses offered by the School of Continuing Studies
(SCS)?
SCS at Northwestern University offers art therapy courses
to health and human service professionals who wish to expand
their professional repertoire and add art therapy to their
practice, as well as art therapy training for those wishing
to enter the field and those seeking further art therapy
training. Students are encouraged to take as many or as few
courses as they wish during any quarter to fulfill continuing
education requirements, or/and fulfill personal or professional
interest.
Who should enroll in these courses?
These courses are of interest to art therapists, social workers,
counselors, psychologists, teachers, other human service professionals,
as well as current students in these disciplines. Career changers
interested in the professions listed above are also encouraged
to attend. These courses also offer an introduction to art
therapy for those who are considering entering the field.
Art therapists may also wish to take courses for additional
training, specialization, or credential maintenance.
What kind of credit is offered?
Noncredit continuing education course work (CECs and CEUs)
can be applied to credential maintenance in art therapy, social
work, and counseling at the rate of one credit for each classroom
hour.
Who are the instructors that
teach?
Our instructors are experienced art therapy professionals
from the Chicago area. Our Advisor is art therapy pioneer
Harriet Wadeson, Ph.D., LCSW, ATR-BC, HLM.
Is there an admissions process
to become enrolled in the program?
There is no admissions process. Registration is open to any
one interested in the art therapy course work.
Are there prerequisites?
There are no educational prerequisites.
When is the enrollment deadline?
Students may register up until 5:00 p.m. the last business
day before the class begins, provided space is available.
Early bird registration ends at 5:00 p.m. seven calendar
days prior to the first class meeting. Students who register
after
this date will be charged a $50.00 late registration fee.
Where do I get my textbooks/course
materials?
Most classes have a small materials fee that is payable to
the instructor on the first day of class. Any other required
books or course materials will be posted on the class web
site. Students may purchase books online at such sites
as BN.com or Amazon.com.
