Student & Alumni Organizations
Alpha Sigma Lambda
Northwestern University is home to the Alpha (founding) chapter
of Alpha Sigma Lambda, the national honor society for continuing
education students. Alpha Sigma Lambda was founded in 1946 by
Dr. Rollin Posey, who was then dean of the Evening Division
of Northwestern University. The society honors those dedicated
adult students who, while adroitly handling the responsibilities
of family and career, achieve and maintain high scholastic standards.
Today there are approximately 250 chapters throughout the U.S.
Students must satisfy the following requirements to be eligible
for membership:
- Admission into a SCS bachelor's degree program
- Attendance at SCS for at least four semesters

courses
- Completion of at least 5 units in the liberal arts and
sciences
- Cumulative grade point average of at least 3.70

An induction ceremony is held each year to honor students
who have met these rigorous requirements.
School of Continuing Studies Alumni Board
SCS's Alumni Board is a constituent member of the NU Alumni
Association. Every SCS graduate is a member of both associations.
The mission of the SCS Alumni Board is to promote the growth
and excellence of SCS services to its students, alumni, faculty
and administrators, and to the community.
The Board of Directors of the SCS Alumni Board is dedicated
to reaching out to alums and reuniting them with SCS through
programs, fundraisers, receptions, involvement in a variety
of committees and events, and through various publications.
The group encourages recent alums to be active participants
and to contribute expertise, time, or funds. The SCS Alumni
Board is one of the most active alumni associations at Northwestern
and involves current students in many of its activities.
Mission Statement - The Northwestern University School of
Continuing (SCS) Studies Student Advisory Board (SAB) serves
as an advocate for the SCS student body. The SAB ensures students’
changing needs and concerns are heard and addressed by providing
a link between the students and SCS administration and faculty.
The SAB promotes communication and a sense of community among
SCS students, and works to enhance available student services.
The SAB is committed to being flexible and representative
of the diverse SCS student body. If you have questions or
wish to contact SAB they can be reached via e-mail at sab@northwestern.edu.

the successful admission of its members into programs that
lead to careers in medical, health, and veterinary practice.
