This course will be held in Wieboldt Hall room 509.
This course will examine the ways in which performance genres in popular culture function rhetorically to communicate ideology. It will also examine how artists and audiences use popular culture as a way of gaining, accessing, and performing agency. Students will engage the genres of film, performance, television, popular music, magazines, and museum exhibits to explore the ways they reinforce or subvert cultural ideas about race, gender, class, and sexuality.
