Libraries

The combined collections of the University's libraries total more than 4 million volumes, ranking 10th among private universities in the United States. The main library offers a 60,000-volume reference collection; research databases; extensive collections of federal, state, and international documents; and microform materials. A multimedia development lab and an internationally known library of African studies are among its other resources.

Supplementing the main library are the Mathematics and Geology Libraries; the Seeley G. Mudd Library for Science and Engineering; and the Charles Deering Library, home to the Music Library and Listening Center, the Art Collection, University Archives, and the Charles Deering McCormick Library of Special Collections. The libraries of the Feinberg School of Medicine and the School of Law on the Chicago campus are also open to SCS students. An interlibrary loan service provides daily delivery of books and materials requested by students on the Chicago campus.

In the Joseph Schaffner Library, on the second floor of Wieboldt Hall in Chicago, students have access to instructional programs, research consultations, free access to computer databases and writing tutorials during late afternoon, evening and weekend hours.
